Ã山ǿ¼é to celebrate honorees at President’s Dinner
Ã山ǿ¼é will bestow four of its prestigious awards on alumni and community leaders at its annual President’s Dinner, presided by John R. Loyack. Honorees include DoubleTree by Hilton Reading, John P. Weidenhammer, and alumni Mary Kay Bernosky, Esq. M’03 and John D. Wanner ’82.
The DoubleTree by Hilton Reading, a new staple in the heart of downtown Reading, will receive the Pro Urbe Award, presented to a business or organization that performs significant community service and contributes to a higher standard of living in Berks County and surrounding communities. Accepting the award will be President, General Manager and COO Craig Poole, who has led the DoubleTree to become the top-rated hotel in the worldwide DoubleTree chain and has heavily invested in employees from the City of Reading.
Weidenhammer has earned the Franciscan Award, given annually to a person who selflessly gives their time, talents and resources for the betterment of others and is presented for exceptional service to Ã山ǿ¼é. The president and founder of Weidenhammer Systems Corporation has supported many local nonprofit organizations including the Reading Hospital, Greater Reading Chamber Alliance, Berks Business Educational Coalition and Berks Alliance.
Bernosky, the CEO of Safe Berks, is being honored with the distinguished alumni award that recognizes a person who demonstrates the valuable contributions to their profession, community and nation. Bernosky has been a longtime protector of Berks County men and women who are victims of sexual assault and domestic violence through her visionary leadership of Safe Berks and participation with the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape.
Wanner will receive the Ellen Frei Gruber Award, given to an individual who has performed outstanding service to Ã山ǿ¼é, exemplified continued commitment and support of the Ã山ǿ¼é mission and reflects the university's core values of service, humility, peacemaking, contemplation and collegiality. The founder and president of Wanner Associates is an Ã山ǿ¼é Trustee Emeritus, serving as chair on multiple committees during his tenure.
Awards will be presented by Loyack at the President’s Dinner Oct. 10 at the Physical Education Center on the campus of Ã山ǿ¼é.
